Has Metchie officially declared?! I missed that one

I would imagine people can make a pretty good educated guess at the roster numbers if they dig into it, but I would caution against anyone betting too much that they match Saban's numbers. A couple years ago, someone that worked in the building said, "there's probably only a handful of folks in there that know the actual numbers..." One thing is for sure though, the Human Abacus in the Straw Hat will always get them to balance out.

Ok lets say I am rounding down :).
I was making a stupid joke which @bamafan9201 actually picked up on: a player's half-assed approach to this season.

Your comment about half of the class leaving wasn't off. It isn't an anomaly either. If you look at every class you'll find your guys who have been either "one of the 85" or "contributors." The changing landscape with the portal allows those that have been "one of the 85" to go somewhere else to play. It's rarely been the case where those that have left have been significant contributors at other programs. (What, maybe half of a dozen or so the biggest being Kamara?)

That changing landscape also allows them to be replaced while the focus is still on the next class of freshmen. Let's not forget two of the guys coming in have been on the All-American team.

On fingers and toes I came up with 88, maybe 89 (Burnip?)

I found this looking around this morning. I believe it was originally posted on BOL. Subtract JAD and Metchie and they're at 87.

Yeah I got it. I may be the only one but I really am hoping Billingsley comes back and figures it out. Would be great for the kid and for Bama. He has the ability to be a major pain for the opposing teams.

True, his catch against Ohio State was incredible, but at some point if a guy's not buying, that's not the example you want for the younger guys coming in.

With respect, I hope we never see #19 in a Bama uniform again. I am still amazed Nick Saban sent that player out for 15 games.

Read that #19 is going to visit Sark at UT.

#19 has obviously been coddled his entire career. Most likely began at home and was extended by coaches/teachers throughout his HS years. Has shown great ability at times but at others is a no show. Better off without him. Let him take his entitlement attitude to UT where coddling will continue under Banks and Sark. May work for him there, wouldn't be the first time it has worked out for guys with similar attitude. @ittakes11 is spot on.

Take Metchie out...

and we're at 88.... technically only 3 spots left to hit 85, but I think you've mentioned that we're not done with transfer portal, so I think Saban will take advantage of the full 7 maximum trnasfer spot, Wouldn't be shocked to see Wynn hit portal now... and maybe see 5 transfers after spring camp. I think he'll use the spring camp to evaluate everyone and make a roster deicison.

It will be interesting to see if Nick signs any player on this upcoming NSD 2.0. JMO but I believe the WR room and the RB room will thin after spring drills.

It wouldn't surprise me if all the below group transfer after spring drills with the exception of Sanders. If a player hasn't gotten into the rotation (not trash time) by their sophomore year then chance then more likely they're not going to be a playa for The King (some exceptions).

Bama is definitely not done portal shopping, and there will be more guys leaving too. For example, don't be caught of guard if a certain RB and another OL depart. Also, should be word at some point next week on ND transfer punter Jay Bramblett. From what I understand, that was/is a 'numbers decision'.

Is Wheaton planning on staying? I can't recall another guy being in the shadows as much as him. Not even sure I've seen him in Alabama clothing or uniform.

Any interesting portal names or potential players Bama is looking at?

Personally don't know of anyone that is a lock right now like Gibbs was. Mentioned the punter Bramblett, which is a strong possibility. He wants to play at UA. I would imagine Bama will be very selective and patient though from this point. More guys will become available in the spring. Remember, Jameson Williams transferred in May. Landon Dickerson was very late summer.

Well circle gets the square. I don't want to list names cause it may not happen, but he's one of the one's I'd keep an eye on.
