Given your northern perspective, can you tell a difference between major brands and how they hold up to road salt? The old Dodge/Chryslers were notorious for rotting out, Ford was noted for its rendition of the Rustang, and rocker panels always rust out on old Chevy trucks, but I think that was more a factor of a blocked drain hole.

Montana as far as I knew wasn't a salt state. I learned last year from some locals that they put salt on MT200. I haven't confirmed this, but probably should.

I see alot of rusted out wheel wells, tailgates, etc.

I almost pulled the trigger on some winter tires for the land cruiser, but felt a smaller and lighter awd would be a better option on the icy hills. That little rav4 had a hell of a time getting up the big hill the other day due to all the slush on the road, must been 6" of slush and 1st gear barely made it up. But she's our little mountain goat.
