They will use the mental health aspect to trample any right they can. We’re talking about government here. I worked with a Russian that had been a young infantry officer in Afghanistan he was adamant that you never visited anything associated with mental health. The country’s policing tool of sorts.

This is Jane. Jane hates conservatives. Her next door neighbor Randy has an American flag in his yard.

Jane calls the police. She tells them Randy is dangerous and provides false statements as evidence. Police petition the court using these false statements to “temporarily” confiscate Randy’s guns.

Randy hires an attorney and petitions the court for return of his property. Randy pays attorney tens of thousands of dollars. 3 years later, the court mandates Randy be subject to random compliance inspections, require he buy a gun safe, and Randy must agree to remain 1000 feet from Jane at all times or be subject to permanent confiscation and revocation of right to bear arms.

Randy buys a bulldozer and welds steel plate to it.

Done deal. Complete with red flag incentives.

The Senate voted 64 to 34 Tuesday evening to advance an 80-page gun safety bill to strengthen background check requirements for gun buyers under 21, provide funding to states to administer red flag laws and provide billions of dollars in new federal funding for mental health services.

Where's Cliff when you need him? 🙃
My take on the firearms portion of it is that it expands the definition of a firearms dealer to include anyone selling mainly for a profit (a huge expansion), with a carve out for those seeking to improve their personal collections. Broadens the background check incidents, includes juvenile records (I think I saw a three day period for juvenile records), allows prospective employers to voluntarily use the system (provides a huge funding for the system). Provisions against smuggling internationally. Penalties if the dealer knowingly sells firearms or ammo that will be used in a felony (watch prosecutors play with that one). It goes on.

No provisions addressing performance of weapons (capacity, bump stock, etc.).

I had a VP of Ops (over paid plt mgr) that was adamant the company was going to sue the State over the right to keep guns in your car. Didn’t matter to him if it was legal and now he would have the perfect monitoring tool over his 2nd amendment employees. Ironically this smacks of National Socialism as it was held as the ideal marriage of corporate and State.

Employers, or the services they utilize, already have federal records available through PACER. State/local online availability varies.
