Check your local library also. Many have programs where you can check out books electronically with a Kindle or the Kindle app.

It's been years since I've looked at the e-books from CCPL. When I did (around the time the first editions of Kindle were being sold) it amused me that they had a select number of copies. I'm assuming it was some agreement with the publishers; don't know.

That is exactly why. They can only loan out however many copies they are licensed for.
