| MBB/WBB Barkley on NBA Gambling money

Hard to believe they could continue with a share of the proceeds coming from 'books? I can see this happening. I can also hope it comes to fruition which leads to another hope that the NBA isn't on TV as much as it is today. I'd rather be watching college baseball and softball right now.
Yeah how would this work? I guess it comes down to gambling becoming legal is enabling this? The teams could negotiate contracts with the people running the gambling industry, whoever that is?

The other thing that I guess should not be a surprise but it was for me when I read it, the amount of TV money is huge so just the thought that the gambling money would dwarf the TV money is mind boggling.

There was an article, I want to say in Sports Business Journal, that touched on how it would be set up. In a nutshell the NBA would receive a percentage from the 'books.

Now, get this. The American Gaming Association estimates that non-football betting, overseas, by US residents exceeds 50 billion a year. The current NBA contract is half of that and they are looking at a multi-year contract with TV for roughly 75.

As of a couple of years ago Nevada's books were carrying over 500 million, per month, on NBA games. How long is their season again?

Overseas money eclipses their current TV deal. Nevada is carrying what, around four billion per season? That just leads me to do a little hypothetical math. And you're right, it's based on the sweeping reforms we're seeing around the nation on legalized gambling. (And I'll likely stay with the game guy I've known for years if he's still taking wagers.)

I hear that. I’d rather be watching Bob Ross paint a forest landscape with the volume on than watch an NBA game. Seems like there’s at least 2 on every night.

I wouldn't touch a sport that is tied together with a sportsbook. I wouldn't wager a dime. Too much possibility for backdoor deals, referee interference, and if it was all legal, shoooooooooot.
