PALOS VERDES ESTATES, CALIF. – The Alabama women's golf team is tied for third place at eight over par, after an opening round 292 performance Sunday in the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge at the par-71, 6,017-yard Palos Verdes Golf Club in Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.
Individually, sophomore Kristen Gillman is one shot back in a tie for second place after a 2-under par 69 opening round. Senior Lakareber Abe shot a 2-over par 73 and is tied for 19th. Junior Lauren Stephenson carded a 3-over par 74 and is tied for 32nd place. Junior Cheyenne Knight carded a 5-over par 76 and is tied for 53rd. Freshman Angelica Moresco (78) is 7-over par and tied for 64th.
Arizona and Arizona State (285) top the leaderboard after both finished the opening round at 1-over par. The Tide (292) shares third place with UCLA at 8-over par while Northwestern (293) is one shot back in fifth place at 9-over par.
The second round of the 54-hole tournament will begin at 11 a.m. CT on Monday. Alabama will be paired with Arizona State, Arizona and UCLA in round two. Moresco will be first off for the Tide at 12:17 p.m. CT, followed by Knight at 12:28 p.m., Stephenson at 12:39 p.m., Abe at 12:50 p.m. and Gillman at 1:01 p.m.
