Default Phillip Ely considering transfer from Alabama

In April of last year, Phillip Sims opted to transfer out of the Alabama football program thanks to AJ McCarron holding a firm grip on the starting quarterback job.

Nine months later, and with McCarron continuing to build on a legacy that includes two straight BCS titles, another Phillip at the position is apparently looking to pull a Sims as well.

Well, it appears that since we gave Phillip Sims such a great sendoff that Phillip Ely is now considering transferring as well?

Assuming we are at the limit of 85 scholarships, and I don't know because I honestly haven't been able to keep up with it, we are only losing a handful of players this year. Like, less than 15. And we are signing at least 25.

The math is simple. Some guys aren't willing to ride the bench for a few years waiting on playing time. If he goes, I wish him the best in his future endeavors.

He could've played for Shula...not Saban.

    Well consider the incoming class:

Parker McLeod from Marietta, GA. The kid is over looked in this class a lot but he's a good one with offers from the likes of offensive teams like Oklahoma State and Louisville.

Cooper Bateman from Salt Lake City, UT - At 6' 3", he is almost too short to see over the OL that Saban has recruited. ;) He has a good arm and is rather mobile. He needs some polish, no doubt, but has all the attributes to be a good one. He reminds me a lot of AJ coming out of high school. 5 SEC schools offered this kid.

Luke Del Rio - Denver, Colorado - He's coming to Alabama without an offer from the Tide. He had solid offers from OK State (take that Gundy!) and Oregon St. The kid obviously has a set so I am curious to see if he's my next favorite walk on at QB since David Smith. If you don't remember seeing him you forgot what a great "baller" he was.

With all that quality coming in, Ely may not like his own chances and you can't blame the guy. He can subscribe to any recruiting web site and view the competition for himself. I am sure he is choosing the best route for himself.

I put this in the same category as with Lacy. With what's already there and with what's coming the likelihood of getting on the field in a capacity that could improve your chances of getting to the next level is slim.

Not talking bad on Lacy, but with Yeldon his carries were going to decrease and then you add all the other talent we have there then you add the talent we have coming and the writing becomes clear

Yea - can't say I blame him, really.

Hope he finds a good fit.
