Wow. I certainly didn't expect the NCAA would rule in Phillip's favor on this.
UVA Media Relations:
Charlottesville, Va. - The NCAA informed the University of Virginia today that sophomore quarterback Phillip Sims has been granted a waiver and will be eligible to compete on the Cavalier football team this fall.
He will not be required to sit out one season per the NCAA's bylaws regarding undergraduate transfers.
Sims transferred to UVa after spending the past two years at Alabama. He redshirted the 2010 season and played as a backup in 2011.
Sims will have three years of eligibility at Virginia starting this season. He has been enrolled at the University since June.
"I am pleased we were able to work with the NCAA to get a resolution regarding this matter," said Virginia coach Mike London. "We look forward to having Phillip and the rest of our team in camp this August."
I wish him luck.

go win the ACC Phillip! Roll Tide.
I wouldn't be too quick to put Phillip in the #2 slot. Right now, sure, but the chances he beats out Rocco for the #1 slot isn't that difficult of a task in my eyes.
Last season, Rocco had one more TD than INT, and ranked in the bottom quarter of the ACC QB's in passing efficiency.
I saw one comment last night when I jumped over to some VA sites to see if there were any more detailed explanations of his "family issues" and caught one comment that summed up what they feel over there: "Alabama #2 >>>>>>>> VA #1.)
In hindsight we may see Sims getting more PT than he expected if AJ gets hurt this season. But, there's just as good of a chance he'd ride the bench all year. I don't fault Sims for wanting more playing time.
We can point to Corey's transfer and say if he'd stuck it out he would have had some significant snaps last year. But, he'd find himself in the same situation he's in now come fall.
I'd also say I think it's fair to be thankful for Sims time with us. He certainly pushed AJ along in his development.
I am VT fan and at this point all the UVA folks have Sims being the savior and winning it all this year.........I hope loss every game!! GO HOKIES,long live HOKIENATION!!!!
