Football. Mal Moore Inducted into Alabama Sports Hall of Fame Saturday Night

Alabama's Director of Athletics, the person who has been associated with more national championships than anyone in Crimson Tide history, will stand besides the former teammates, colleagues and numerous students whom he helped and have already received the highest accolade that their state can offer.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Some don't realize that he was once a backup quarterback out of the small town of Dozier, Alabama.

Others are simply unaware that he was one of the players who helped Paul W. "Bear" Bryant win his first national championship in 1961.

But Saturday night, the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame will take a major step in

Top Seed Alabama Claims SEC Softball Tournament Title

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The top seeded Alabama softball team jumped out to an early lead and never looked back en route to a 10-1, run-rule victory over the Florida Gators in the Southeastern Conference Tournament Championship Game. The SEC tournament title was the fifth for the Crimson Tide, putting them into a tie with LSU for most overall.

"I couldn't be prouder of our team," Alabama head coach Patrick Murphy said. "Those seniors, Kendall Dawson, <a href="http://www.rolltide.com/sports/w-softbl/mtt/fenton_jennifer00.html"

Softball Shuts Out Georgia; Heads to Championship Game

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The top seeded Alabama softball team used a Courtney Conley home run and some key defensive stops to shut out Georgia, 1-0, to advance to the Southeastern Conference Tournament Championship game. Alabama will play the third seeded Florida Gators at noon on Saturday.

"That was fun", Alabama head coach Patrick Murphy said. "It was a heck of a game. I think everybody got their money's worth.
Saban on conference champs-only playoff: "Hell no"

In an appearance on Tim Brando's nationally syndicated radio show on Thursday, Alabama head coach Nick Saban made it emphatically clear what he thinks of the proposed college football playoff model that would exclude any teams that don't win their conference championship.

"The one thing that I think is that people want to see the best teams play. They don't want a bunch of conference champions to end up playing in a championship game," Saban said. "If we do that, did we accomplish what we set out to accomplish? Hell no."<br

For Mal Moore, titles were the norm as player, coach and Crimson Tide AD

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- For a man honored for his past success, Mal Moore's current year couldn't get much better.

Another national title in football. Ditto, gymnastics. The men's golf team is the No. 1 seed heading into the NCAA championship and the softball team is a favorite to make waves in Oklahoma City.

For the University of Alabama athletics director, who goes into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday in a ceremony at the Birmingham Sheraton, the current wave began with a huge gamble after a floundering 2006 football season.

"When we made the change," Moore said, alluding to the dismissal of Mike Shula, "I felt
