TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Home games against Final Four participant Wichita State and Big East member Xavier, as well as contests against NCAA Tournament teams Oklahoma and UCLA highlight the 2013-14 Alabama men's basketball non-conference slate, which was announced by head coach Anthony Grant on Wednesday.

In addition, the Crimson Tide will also be one of four host schools for the 2013 NIT Season Tip-Off, which marks the first time since the 2005-06 season Alabama will appear in the annual event.

In all, the challenging 13-game non-league schedule features eight home games and boasts five teams that participated in postseason play.

"We are excited about our 2013-14 non-conference schedule," Grant said. "Each year we look to put together the most challenging schedule we can and we feel these games will be great preparation for the rigors of the always difficult SEC season."

The regular season tips off on Nov. 8 when the Crimson Tide will take on Oklahoma in Dallas, Texas at
American Airlines Center in the Tip-Off Showcase.

The Alabama Crimson Tide found their quarterback for the Class of 2014 on Friday picking up a commitment from five-star prospect David Cornwell. The 6-foot-5, 230-pound star from Norman, Oklahoma announced his commitment on Twitter.

Cornwell is rated the nation's No. 1 pro-style quarterback by 247Sports and ESPN and No. 3 at the position by Rivals.com. He chose the Crimson Tide over offers from Auburn, Virginia Tech, Tennessee and over a dozen other schools.

"I love Alabama, it's a perfect fit," Cornwell said via text message. "Coach Saban and his staff are the best in the country. I look forward to helping them build a class and playing in Tuscaloosa."

When you enter the University of Alabama, what is the first thing you recognize?

If I had to take a poll on this question, the responses I would receive would range from different buildings on campus to Coleman Coliseum. For Southeastern Conference football fans, the first thing they recognize is the stadium that seats 101, 821 fans on Saturdays and the enriching history behind it.

Bryant-Denny Stadium, which is named after legendary head coach Paul W. “Bear” Bryant, is more than just an enjoyable place for fans and a hostile environment for opposing teams. If one was to take a tour of this stadium, they would immediately be emerged into the atmosphere of three things: the winning tradition of the Crimson Tide, the statues that represent the three best coaches of Alabama football (Paul “Bear” Bryant, Gene Stallings and Nick Saban) and the Walk of Champions.

Though these three things are significant, there is a fourth reason as to why we are so addicted to Alabama football that being the quarterbacks. As a coach, you can have ten of the best players on field offensively, but without a good field general the team will struggle.

In all sports, one theme remains the same: Offense wins games, but defense wins championships.

Out of all the conferences in college football, only one has held true to this demeanor that being the Southeastern Conference and the team in particular, the Alabama Crimson Tide. For the real, die-hard Tide fans, they have experienced the best of both worlds.

From the years of domination under coaches Paul “Bear” Bryant and Gene Stallings, to the years of struggle and probation under coaches Mike Price, Mike DuBose, Dennis Franchione and Mike Shula and now back to dominance with head coach Nick Saban, Alabama fans have always found a way to stand beside the Tide through thick and thin.

In his years with LSU and his one-year stint with the Miami Dolphins, Nick Saban has always been an intense, defensive-minded coach. Since his arrival in Tuscaloosa in 2007, Saban has changed how defense is supposed to look and be played in the SEC. Every day on ESPN there is a show called “The Numbers Don’t Lie,” and if one were to judge the Alabama defense for the past four seasons (since 2009), the numbers would tell them why the Crimson Tide defense was so dominate.
